Head Above Water

When recording the pieces that became Head Above Water, I set out to make droney but melodic pieces to help me keep my head up through the difficulties and stress of every day life (especially if you are an LGBTQ+ person…). I set off on working on these pieces in summer 2024 as a melancholy but atmospheric vacation for the ears. Found sound from the ocean (the Atlantic Ocean is a guest instrumnentalist), vocal samples that capture fleeting emotions, analog synths and constant tinkering and generating during off hours. Electronic music left out in the sand to bleach underneath the sun. These five pieces sit together as an arc bubbling up from the waves and fading out to the ocean’s breeze.
